SUDDEN SPIKE IN COVID 19 CASES. 1 LAKH NEW CASES RECORDED IN DELHI

There has been a sudden spike in coronavirus cases in the national capital, nearly 6,396 cases were reported on Tuesday. The daily rise breached the 5,000-mark for the first time since October and crossed the 8,000-mark in the month of November. 

According to official data, over one lakh new coronavirus cases and around 1,200 deaths have been recorded between November 1-16 in Delhi. Also the number of recoveries during the same period stands at 94,000. There has been a sudden increase in the number of active cases in Delhi which has in turn increased the number of deaths in the national capital.

104 coronavirus-related deaths were recorded in the city on November 12, the highest in over five months. According to health department data, 1,01,070 coronavirus cases have been recorded so far this month, 1,202 fatalities due to of Covid-19 have been recorded while 93,885 coronavirus patients have recovered from the virus since November 1.

On November 1, Delhi recorded 5,664 cases which increased to 8,593 on November 11, the highest-single-day spike till date. However, on November 12 the city recorded 7,053 new cases, followed by 7,802 (November 13), 7,340 (November 14), 3,235 (November 15) and 3,797 (November 16).

Similarly the fatality count from November 11-16 stood at 85; 104; 91; 96; 95 and 99 respectively. Aggressive testing and strict 'test-track-treat' strategy and promotion and observance of Prime Minister’s Jan Andolan campaign has been very instrumental in curbing the spread of the virus and the rate of spread of infection has been effectively contained.  Around 7,606 Covid-19 patients had recovered on November 15. This is the highest single-day recovery count in the month of November. The recovery count stood at 6,498; 7,117; 7,606 and 3,560 from November 13-16.

Delhi recorded 3,797 fresh Covid-19 cases on Monday and the infection tally in the national capital reached to over 4.89 lakh and 99 new fatalities pushed the toll to 7,713. Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal sought power from the Centre to impose lockdown in the markets which may emerge as Covid-19 hotspots, and decided to withdraw an order allowing 200 guests to attend wedding functions.

Kejriwal said the Delhi government has sent a proposal to Lt Governor Anil Baijal to allow only 50 people to attend wedding ceremonies against the earlier limit of 200. Adherence to social distancing norms, wearing masks in public places and washing hands regularly will help reduce the spread of the virus.
