Rural Health Sub-Centres to be upgraded in Uttar Pradesh, 97 Health and Wellness Centres coming up in rural areas

People living in the countryside will not have to run to big health centres any more in Uttar Pradesh. The State government has been making all efforts to bring in treatment and test facilities for typhoid, malaria and tuberculosis to health sub-centres in  villages. With an aim to provide best healthcare to the people living in the rural areas, the Yogi Adityanath government is coming out with an ambitious and people-centric scheme in which these health sub-centres in villages will be upgraded.

Under the new scheme, health and wellness centres would be started at these health sub-centres at a cost of Rs 7 crore.  In the first phase the state government is opening 97 health and wellness centres in the neighbourhood of state capital.  Each centre has been allocated a sum of Rs seven lakh for this purpose. This facility will be extended across the state in the second and third phases.

These centres will have facilities to diagnose 12 types of non-communicable diseases and they would be then treated. Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Provincial Medical Health Services, Uttar Pradesh  Dr Sanjay Bhatnagar said that these 97 health and wellness centres have already got an approval  from the state government which will also ensure better treatment at the primary and community health centres.

He said that dsiseases such as blood pressure, diabetes, TB, measles, leprosy, malaria, heart, typhoid and other ailments will be identified at these centres at the primary level and then as per the disease they will be referred to specialist doctors. “Till now, an ANM used to sit at the health sub-centres but now community health officers (CHOs) will be appointed here,” the CMO added.

After a training of six-months at institutes like King George Medical University staff nurses will be appointed as CHO's. All these CHO's will be paid salary from the National Health Mission funds.

Under the scheme, at these centres villagers would be apprised of life style diseases and ways to control and manage them. Under this, two days in a week, villagers would also be given Yoga classes, so that they can learn it and take good care of their body and mind.
