JAN-ANDOLAN CAMPAIGN PROMOTES COVID APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR AMONG CITIZENS, RECOVERIES EXCEED NEW POSITIVE CASES

The Jan-Andolan campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to promote COVID appropriate behavior among people across the country with the forthcoming festivals and winter season has been a big success. While new positive cases see a downward trend, the number of positive cases stand at 45,903 in last 24 hours. The count did not cross the 50,000 mark for the second day.

India has witnessed a declining trend in active cases. This has been possible due to timely tracking, rapid testing, quick surveillance and effective hospitalization. The gap between recoveries and positive cases is widening with each passing day and recoveries are now outnumbering new cases for the 37th Day with 48,405 cases recovering in the last 24 hours.

This active caseload of India has shrunk considerably and presently is 5.09 lakhs while the recovery rate has seen a boost and presently stands at 92.56%. The total number of recoveries in  a day stand at 79,17,373 and there is a gap of 74,07,700 between Recovered cases and Active cases. There is a considerable decline in mortality rate as more number of people are responding to medication and are recovering quickly.

Aggressive testing and strict 'test-track-treat' strategy has resulted in sharp decline in national cumulative positivity rate and the rate of spread of infection has been effectively contained. With this country’s Cumulative Positivity Rate has declined and focus on testing remains a prime commitment of the Centre and the State/UT governments. India’s Cumulative Positivity Rate has dropped to 7.19%.

79% of the new recovered cases in the past 24 hours are from 10 States/UTs. The state with highest number of recoveries is Maharashtra with 8,232 single day recoveries followed by Kerala with 6,853 and Delhi with 6,069 recoveries.

However new confirmed cases have been reported in the last 24 hours in the country and 79% of these new cases are concentrated in ten States/UT. Delhi is leading the number of new active cases with 7,745 cases followed by Maharashtra and Kerala with more than 5,000 cases. West Bengal follows with more than 3,920 new cases.

India’s case Fatality Rate has reduced significantly over months and less than 500 case fatalities have been reported in the past 24 hours. 81% of fatalities have been reported in 10 States and UTs in the past 24 hours and 490 deaths have been registered in the past 24 hours. Maharashtra tops the chart with125 deaths followed by Delhi and West Bengal follows with 77 and 59 new deaths, respectively.
