ESANJEEVANI DELIVERS CONTACTLESS HEALTH SERVICES TO INDIANS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, RECENTLY COMPLETED 7 LAKH CONSULTATIONS

The eSanjeevani, a national telemedicine service under Ayushman Bharat health initiative aims to connect 1.5 lakh health and wellness institutes established under Ayushman Bharat. Under this initiative patients can interact with doctors and seek consultation over audio and video calls without having to step out of their house during the pandemic.

eSanjeevani recently completed 7 lakh consultations and the last one lakh consultations have come up in 11 days with over 10,000 Patient-Doctor Consultations per day. eSanjeevani ensures quick and easy access to caregivers,  medical professionals and those seeking healthcare services in the pandemic across India both rural areas and urban areas . It is turning into the largest OPD services in the country with over 10,000 consultations being recorded per day.

The telemedicine service is quite an innovative way to deliver contactless health services and is beneficial not only for patients but for doctors as well. While patients do not have to step out during the pandemic to seek medical consultation even doctors do not run the risk of coming in contact with the virus as eSanjeevani limits the contact with patients. Also the tele-medicine service has done away with the need of doctor to be at a specific location to provide service and has reduced the long queues outside clinics. All one needs to do is download the app from app store, register himself and generate the government token. The next step is to login with patient id and wait in the virtual waiting room. Soon “call now” button gets activated to start a video call. Patients can consult doctors virtually and receive e-prescriptions which can be used to buy medicines or seek diagnostic investigations.

In the recent past Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Karnataka have increased the utilization of eSanjeevani while Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala and Uttarakhand have had steady increase in consultations in the past few months. Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Karnataka and Maharashtra are the top ten States which have registered highest consultations through eSanjeevani and eSanjeevaniOPD platforms.

Doctor-to-Doctor (eSanjeevani AB-HWC) and Patient-to-Doctor (eSanjeevani OPD) Tele-consultations are the two types of online consultation with general physicians and medical specialists that eSanjeevani supports. Doctor-to-Doctor (eSanjeevani AB-HWC) was rolled out in November 2019 and is to be implemented in a 'Hub and Spoke' model in all the 1.5 lakh Health and Wellness Centres, by December 2022.

Patient-to-Doctor or eSanjeevaniOPD was rolled out in April this year to enable patient-to-doctor tele-consultations when the OPDs across the country were closed owing to the COVID-19.

Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (Mohali) and Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India are constantly enhancing the capabilities and adding new functionalities in eSanjeevani in consultation with State Administrations.
