India has reported reports 1,68,912 new Covid-19 cases, 75,086 discharges, and 904 deaths in last 24 hours, as per Union Health Ministry. The country has been scaling multiple peaks in its effort to contain the COVID-19 virus. Day 1 ( April 11) of the countrywide TikaUtsav saw many Workplace VacciantionCentres operational. 

 

On an average 45,000 COVID Vaccination centres (CVCs) used to be funcational on any given day. On Monday  63,800 CVCs were operational, marking a rise of an average of 18,800 operational Vaccination Centres. Additonally, on an average, Sunday witnessed lower levels of vaccination numbers (about 16 lakh). On the first day of TikaUtsav, more than 27 lakh vaccine doses were administered till 8 pm. The cumulative number of COVID19 vaccine doses administered in the country stands at 10,45,28, 565 as per the 8 pm provisional report today.

Prime Minister Narendra announced the launch of  'TikaUtsav' from 11th April, which was the birth anniversary of JyotibaPhule. The 'TikaUtsav' will continue till 14th April, i.e., the birth anniversary of Baba SahebAmbedkar. “This festival is, in a way, the beginning of another major war against Corona. We have to lay special emphasis on personal hygiene as well as social hygiene,” the Prime Minister appealed. 

Urging eligible people to go for vaccination, he said,  “In a country with a dense population like India, ‘micro-containment zone’ is also an important way to fight corona. In the event of detection of a single positive case, it is very important for all of us to be alert and to test the rest of the people. At the same time, the society and the administration have to make every effort to get the vaccine administered to the eligible people. We have to ensure that not a single vaccine is lost. We have to move towards zero vaccine waste. In the meantime, we have to move towards optimum utilization of the country's vaccination capacity. This is also a way to increase our capacity.”

“We will once again be able to control corona with people's participation and discharging our responsibility, while remaining alert,” Modi emphasized.

The extension of vaccine coverage to those above 45 years along with the recent provisions for them to get vaccinated at their workplaces (govt and private) form a series of pro-active, collaborative and coordinated steps taken by the Centre and the State governments for safety and prevention of precious lives from the infectious COVID disease. This along with the efficient clinical management has thus far ensured that India has the lowest fatality rate in the world (1.28%).

The achievement is also a testimony of the ‘whole of society’ approach where individuals turned a deaf ear to rumours and propaganda of vested interests, shunned their vaccine hesitancy and strengthened the hand of the administration in curbing COVID-19. The vaccination exercise as a tool to protect the most vulnerable population groups in the country from COVID-19 continues to be regularly reviewed and monitored at the highest level. India is also the fastest country in the world to achieve the 100 million.
